Love Your Dog Groomer Day

There’s a new doggy holiday on the calendar in the UK, and we’re here to help spread it on this side of the pond. September is Love Your Dog Groomer Day! Groomers definitely deserve to be appreciated for their hard work! A local LaPorte, IN vet lists some reasons to love your canine pal’s hairdresser below.

Groomers really do make things easier for pet owners. Instead of having to coax, cajole, or lift Fido into the tub, you can just drop him off at the salon. You won’t have to clean up any mess, and you’ll be able to pick up a clean, fresh-smelling pooch. What’s not to love?

Practiced Eye

A groomer is not a veterinarian, and Fido’s beauty treatments should never be construed as veterinary care. That said, professional groomers have a lot of experience handling our canine friends, and can often spot small warning signs that something is wrong. This may be something quite subtle, such as a lesion hidden under fur; swelling; skin issues; or even just sensitivity. When it comes to our four-legged friends, any sort of early warning for medical issues is definitely a great thing!

Professional Touch

Our furry pals all have individual grooming needs. Some pups just need more attention in this area than others. A Boxer may only need occasional baths, while a Cocker Spaniel may need to be bathed at least once a month. Fido may also require medical grooming, such as anal gland expression. These procedures should only be done by professionals, and only if your vet recommends it.

Comfortable Care

If you have a smaller dog, it may be easy for you to lift your furry buddy in and out of the tub or sink. However, this can be pretty challenging with larger pups. This can also be difficult with senior dogs, as they are often stiff and sore. Even being picked up can be uncomfortable for some pooches! Many groomers have stations that are designed for Fido’s comfort and safety.

One of the best things about our canine companions is the fact that they can be so affectionate. It’s always great when Fido wants to snuggle … but this is definitely much more pleasant when he is soft and clean, and doesn’t stink!
