Did you know that cats can get bored? While Fluffy seems to enjoy doing as little as possible, your pet can’t spend all of her time sleeping. In fact, our feline friends can get anxious and depressed with nothing to do. But how do you keep a kitty amused? Read on as a Michigan City, IN vet offers some helpful tips on keeping Fluffy entertained.
Toys
First things first: make sure your furball has lots of fun toys. Catnip mice are fine, but you can also find some cute modern toys. Fluffy may like playing with a robotic mouse, mechanical ‘swimming’ fish, or an automated laser pointer. Change your pet’s toys out regularly to keep them fun and exciting for her.
Window Seat
Birdwatching is one of Fluffy’s favorite pastimes. Make sure your cat has a secure, comfy window seat, where she can relax, sunbathe, and look outside and watch birds and squirrels.
Playtime
Did you know that playing with your cat is one of the best things you can do for her? Fun play sessions will keep your furry friend active, and keep her from getting bored. They’ll also help strengthen the bond between you and your kitty. Cats love being pampered and played with!
Background Noise
When you leave your cat home alone, turn a TV or radio on for her. The sound of music and voices will provide mental stimulation, and can help keep Fluffy from getting lonely. You can even order your cat some DVDs made just for kitties!
Kitty Garden
While we recommend that cats stay indoors, where they aren’t exposed to the dangers posed by cars, weather, predators, and other hazards. However, there’s no reason Fluffy can’t get a taste of nature. Set out some pet-safe plants for your feline buddy to nibble on and hide behind. You can find a full list at the ASPCA website.
Buddies
While some cats are much happier being an only pet, some of our feline pals really enjoy having a buddy to play with and snuggle up to. Be sure to think things over carefully before adopting another cat: it’s a huge commitment. But if all signs point to go, and you think Fluffy would enjoy having a playmate, go for it!
